September 21 marks the last day of Summer and the beginning of Autumn. It also happens to be a Public Holiday in Malta! It was a beautiful day and how better to celebrate the end of summer and a public holiday than to lunch on the water’s edge and indulge in lovely food. Me and my friend (another foodie) decided to make best use of our day off and catch up over good food. After a lot of thinking she suggested that we go to Ta’ Xbiex Waterpolo Club. It is the perfect spot for a summery meal. There is some seating inside but given  that it was a gorgeous day we asked for a table outside. There’s a fair- sizes outdoor seating area. This restaurant is really perfect for those who love seafood. They always serve fresh fish that will satisfy seafood lovers cravings. Fish is not their only…

Since it opened, Vecchia Napoli has gained a lot of popularity and is the hot spot for all those people looking for an authentic Neapolitan food experience. Every day, this Italian restaurant is packed with Italian food lovers and tourists happy to get an opportunity to try the restaurants delicious pizza, tasty pasta and selection of antipasti. Vecchia Napoli is widely considered as one of the best Italian restaurants on the island. To get a table for dinner, you have to book in advance otherwise you have to either wait or return on another day. Vecchia Napoli is an authentic restaurant because the ingredients and cooking methods remained genuine to tradition too. Last Saturday, I organised a family dinner and since we were going to be a big group we decided to go to Vecchia Napoli. I tried to get us at table at Vecchia Napoli in Salini first but…

Authenticity and charm meet at 67 Kapitali in Valletta. We recently discovered this family- run craft beer bar and artisan eatery in our beautiful capital city and have been returning ever since. It is always busy and buzzing, but the service is always top- notch. It is quite obvious that the owners are very passionate about what they do. It is not a super formal place, quite the opposite, it is a fantastic place with a friendly atmosphere. Throughout the years this warm coffee shop managed to build a reputation and transform itself into a well sought after beer spot. Its perfect location makes it popular with locals as well as tourists who are looking for something quaint. Their recipe for success is simple: moderately-priced meals using only fresh high-quality ingredients. Renowned for their never- ending selection of craft beer in Malta, 67 Kapitali is outstanding. 67 Kapitali pride themselves in…

Visiting Trapani Turning the big 2-5 is a big deal, so it should come as no surprise that I tried to make this birthday unforgettable. Given I am a travel-hungry person I decided I should celebrate my 25th birthday somewhere new. We booked a trip to Sicily, more precisely Trapani, literally a week before my birthday to celebrate the start of a new chapter with a fun adventure. What is so special about Trapani? A 40 minute flight from Malta, Trapani makes the perfect weekend holiday. Sicily is a fantastic island, I never get tired of visiting. Its architecture and traditional cuisine bear the indelible imprint of its ruling invaders, such as the Greeks, Arabs, Byzantines, Vandals, and the Normans. Quite a colourful history right? About Trapani Trapani, a sickle-shaped port city, is located on the west side of the island. In the past Trapani’s main industries were coral, tuna fishing,…

Yesterday we decided to do something different, and instead of going for lunch, we decided to go for brunch. Books, brunches and Saturdays are three of my top favourite things. I am surprised we don’t do it more often. Hammett’s Gastro Bar is the latest hot spot for brunch in Sliema. We decided to show up at Hammett’s and it did not dissapoint. We left with a full belly and a huge smile on our faces. Hammett’s is the latest talk of the town. It is situated on the Sliema seafront, literally minutes away from all the activity. They offer a casual dining experience serving sharing plates, open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. What I love about Hammett’s is that their dishes are made of simple and classic ingredients combined with an innovative and upscale cooking techniques. The menu is changed regularly, so I am sure that you will always…

I have had the pleasure of eating at Commando Restaurant in Mellieha (Malta) on three different occasions, and I have been super impressed every single time! The more I eat out the pickier I get, but this one never dissapoints. Trust me! Owned and operated by Chef Damian Ciappara, Commando is found in the charming village of Mellieha. Mellieha is a small village in the North of Malta well known for its beautiful sandy beaches and breathtaking views. Also a cosy wine bar, ideal for cold winter nights, Commando is housed within a more than 300 year old stone building. A destination place to organise a special birthday or anniversary dinner among friends ,or perhaps a table for two for romance What makes Chef Damian exceptional is the fact that he has been trained abroad under Michelin starred chefs. He, and his team, are very passionate and not scared to…

An outstanding culinary experience awaits you at Hush Restaurant in the heart St. Julians. Overlooking a picturesque view of Portomaso Marina, Hush is ideal for a family as well as business dinner. For those who prefer lunching or dining inside, Hush, has a stylish and welcome ambiance. Hush is totally unique, it provides an experience like no other restaurant in the area. It is nicely decorated, I am a bit dissapointed that I didn’t get to see how it looks in the evening, but I am sure I will go back and check. If anything, to try one of the tempting cocktails. Let me put it this way, their cocktail menu fulfill the dreams of all those people who consider themselves cocktail experts. They specialise in both innovative and familiar cocktails, while creating expert drinks of all types. Pity I was going to continue working afterwards. Last Monday, I went to…

We felt like something different, thus we opted for Truffle and Truffles in Saint Julian’s. Truffle and Truffles is the ideal place for you to be if you are looking for an innovative place offering a modern bistro and mixology experience. Truffle and Truffles is perfectly located in Saint Julian’s, a mere 6 minute walk from Hilton and offers a sea view from the upper level of the restaurant. The exclusive decor and elegant interior of the restaurant hosts a unique gastronomical journey for all those who visit. As the name quite obviously suggests, everything on the menu includes truffles, which is pretty awesome! Every thing on the menu tells a story, through hand picked ingredients, flavours and scents. This is what makes Truffle and Truffles stand out from the rest. What I love about this restaurant is the food presentation and top service. The staff are always polite and do…

One of the advantages of living in Malta is easy and fast access to a lot of vibrant cities. We can just pick a city and get there quickly and cheaply. Three days in Barcelona was just enough time to see and do the city’s greatest attractions. About Barcelona Having the reputation of one of the most vibrant and colourful cities in Europe, Barcelona surely deserves its role as the capital of Catalonia. I believe that in Barcelona you get the opportunity to truly understand the true meaning behind the word Mediterranean. One might ask why, and rightly so. Some of the reasons why Barcelona screams Mediterranean is the climate, food, vibe, culture, history and above all its personality. This is the city where you should let loose, drink cocktails, dance and embrace all the magic that will make you fall in love with the city of Barcelona. Get away…
